What we don't ship: anything that reads information the server didn't send you on purpose. No player radar, no auto-clicking, no hitbox changes. If a server bans it, it isn't in Solar.

For servers

Servers can talk to your client.

With the free Solar Bridge plugin, a server can show you notifications, waypoints, cooldowns, titles and team markers, and switch off mods that don't fit its game mode. Look for the Solar features badge in the server list.

Same PC, same world (seed 4242, noon, clear weather, fixed camera), 30 seconds after a warm-up. Your numbers will differ — the ratio is what matters.

Cached HUD

The HUD renders to a texture 60 times a second and gets pasted on every other frame. Visually identical, a lot cheaper.

No glGetError stalls

Vanilla asks the GPU about errors several times per frame, which forces the CPU to wait. We stop asking.

Distance culling

Distant items, mobs, armor stands, chests, signs, skulls and banners stop rendering. Players are never culled.

Uncapped menus

Minecraft limits menus to 30 FPS. Solar lets them run at your normal frame rate, so menus feel instant.

Background saver

15 FPS while the game window isn't focused, so alt-tabbing doesn't cook your GPU.

PvP graphics profile

VSync off, uncapped, VBOs on, no mipmaps, no entity shadows, no clouds. Applied once on first launch.

How the benchmark works

The client has a built-in benchmark mode. It creates a world with seed 4242, sets the time to noon, clears the weather and turns off the daylight cycle, puts the camera in the same spot facing the same way, waits for chunks to load, and then samples the frame rate once a second for 30 seconds.

We run it three ways on the same machine:

  • Minecraft with default video settings — VSync on and a 120 FPS cap, the way most people first experience it. Average: 119 FPS on 1.8.9.
  • Minecraft, uncapped — VSync off, unlimited frame rate, everything else default. Average: 590 FPS.
  • Solar with the Max FPS profile and its optimizations on. Average: 2,540 FPS.

An empty flat-ish world is the best case for any client. On a busy server with dozens of players on screen, the CPU and the entity count take over and the gap gets smaller. It doesn't disappear — you'll feel it most in the dips.
